Cement Industry of Pakistan witnesses Growth with Increasing Prices

Cement sales continued to register double-digit growth with the advent of 2021, however exports could not increase due to weakening competitiveness in the international market.

The price of cement rose in all the regions of the country due to a variety of factors including high demand because of real estate projects, along with some other factors that are discussed as follows.

Overall local cement sales surged by 28 March – 2021 17 percent to 27.65 million tonnes in 2021, while exports also grew by 10.23pc to 5.71m tonnes from 5.186m tonnes in the same period last year. Consequently, the total cement dis- patches (local and exports) were 33.36m tonnes that were 15.77pc higher over the corresponding period of the last fiscal year. In the first month of 2021, the cement sector witnessed a growth of 16.28pc as compared to January 2020. Total cement dispatches in the same time period were 4.73m tonnes against

4.07m tonnes in the same month of the previous year. Local cement sales increased by 23.67pc to 4.03m tonnes in 2021 compared to 3.26m tonnes in 2020. However, exports decreased by 14pc to 694,934 tonnes in 2021 from 808,874 tonnes in 2020.
